The primary role of the Clerk's Department is driven by provincial legislation, most notably the Municipal Act, the Municipal Elections Act and the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The Department provides administrative support to Council and its Committees and ensures that all of the actions taken by Council are recorded and communicated.

Brockville’s Clerk's Department is a diverse department, which performs a variety of administrative, and statutory functions for the Corporation. The Clerk’s Department reports to the City Manager. The department also manages the By-law Department. Many of the functions pertaining to licenses and parking as listed below are handled at the information desk in the By-law office.

Some of the functions performed by the Clerk’s department are:

• Secretarial and support services to Council and Council Committee
• Council agendas and minutes for the various committees and Council sessions
• Vital Statistics
  • Birth Registration of births that occurred prior to December 15, 2008.  Births occurring after December 15, 2008 are registered directly with the Office of the Registrar General.  Please contact 1-800-461-2156

Marriage Licenses

Both the bride and groom must be 18 years of age or older. Anyone between the age of 16 and 18 may marry but must have have written parental consent. Birth Certificates and a photo ID are required for both parties and if either patry is divorced, you must have either your final divorce papers or a certified true copy.

Brockville Artisans Village

 

The ARTISANS VILLAGE was developed by the City of Brockville to provide an opportunity for various mediums to showcase (and sell) their works. The concept of the ARTISANS VILLAGE is to create a destination where residents, tourists and shoppers would wander through a tented village like setting to view the artist’s works and where artists may demonstrate their skills.

 

The ARTISANS VILLAGE is located on Blockhouse Island where it operates Sundays from the weekend after Victoria Day to Labour Day weekend. between the hours of 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. Please note that the ARTISAN VILLAGE will not operate on the first Sunday in July or August but will be in operation on the Civic Holiday in August.

 Fees

 

Seasonal - $250 per space

Daily - $25 per space

 

A cheque (post-dated to May 1^st) made payable to the City of Brockville must be submitted with the Membership Application no later than March 1^st for consideration for the season. Applicants will be notified by March 31^st of their acceptance. Applications received later than the deadline may be considered dependent on the mix of disciplines already juried and approved for membership.

 

Jury Information

 

The jury will consist of two artists and artisans who are not members of the ARTISANS VILLAGE and from the City of Brockville, the City Clerk and Director of Parks and Recreation.

 

Artists and artisans to be juried please submit the following with your application:

•   Five high-quality images on CD or five photographs that are representative of the work you intend to display. Clearly label the CD or photographs with your NAME, EMAIL ADDRESS, AND PHONE NUMBER;
• A brief description of your technique;
•  A brief biography

 

Daily vendors will be subject to a one-time jury fee of $10.

 

Those applicants who were juried and participated in the previous season will be not be required to submit their works for juring in the current season unless their median has changed.

 

Artists and artisans to be juried will be contacted to schedule an appointment for juring. All jury decisions are final.

 

Acceptance Criteria

•  You must be the designer, creator and producer of your art or craft.
• You must reside in Canada or the United States.
• Your art or craft must be made in Canada or the United States.
• Your art or craft will be juried for the quality, competency in medium and artistic merit and professional presentation.
• Mass-produced goods will NOT be accepted.
• You are required to have and bring a valid Ontario Vendor’s Permit.

 

Organizations and Associations

Organizations and Associations may apply for group membership. This membership will permit the organization or association to be represented by one artist/artisan each day of operation. Organization and Association members may only participate in the ARTISANS VILLAGE if they have been approved by the jury.

 

A $10 jury fee will be charged to members of Associations and Organization who wish to be juried for exhibition.

 

Member Rules

•  Pets are not permitted in the exhibition area.
•  Vehicles may be unloaded in the designated area and then must be moved to the designated parking area.
• Seasonal Members not able to exhibit on a particular day are required to sub-lease their space to another approved artist or provide a minimum of seven days notice to the City of Brockville so that alternate arrangements can be made.
• Members who do not provide notice of absences will be required to re-apply and rejuried for the following season.
•  Members may not share their space with another artist.
•  The City of Brockville reserves the right to terminate membership without notice.
• The City of Brockville will not be held responsible for any loss or damages to members artwork.
