Federal Gas Tax Funding
The Federal Gas Tax Fund was announced in the 2005 Federal Budget and was created to help municipalities undertake environmentally sustainable infrastructure projects. Since the creation of the fund, the Federal Government has committed approximately $1.9 billion in infrastructure funding to municipalities in Ontario. This funding has not only helped the residents of Ontario enjoy cleaner air and cleaner water, but has also helped to stimulate local economies by aiding in job creation and the improvement of infrastructure that will support future economic growth.
Through the facilitation efforts of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, The City of Brockville has been fortunate to receive $3,493,201 in Federal Gas Tax funding since 2005. This funding has helped the City of Brockville to undertake energy efficient retrofits at several municipally owned buildings, has helped provide clean water to residents by aiding in the upgrading of water and wastewater infrastructure and has helped in updating the Official Plan.
Future investment priorities for Gas Tax funding include energy efficient street light conversion, separation of combined sewers in the Jessie Street and George Street areas as well as the completion of the Enterprise Resource Planning System.
